Microblogging site Twitter has deleted the wrong map showing Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as separate from India. However, no comment was received from Twitter regarding the removal of the map.
In fact, Twitter’s career page has a world map in the Tip Life section. From here the company shows that there is a team of Twitter around the world. This map also includes India but the map of India was shown as controversial.
This is not the first time that Twitter has misrepresented the map of India. Ladakh has never been shown as part of India before. However this was later fixed.
Twitter’s purpose is not right: Ravi Shankar Prasad
At the same time, there is already an atmosphere of tension between Twitter and the central government. The government has publicly come out against Twitter. IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said Twitter has a dual attitude towards India. Twitter’s intent doesn’t seem right.
Last week, Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad’s account was locked for an hour due to copyright infringement. Now the news has come that the complaining officer who hired the company as per Indian IT rules has resigned from the company.
The resignation comes at a time when Twitter and the Indian government are at loggerheads over the new IT rules. The central government has also reprimanded social media company Twitter for not complying with the new rules.
The new IT rules have come into effect from May 25
Under the new IT rules, which came into force on May 25, social media companies will have to set up a grievance redressal mechanism to address user or victim grievances. The rule states that all major social media organizations with more than 5 million users will appoint a Complaints Officer to deal with such complaints and share the names and contact information of such officials.
